More Money, More Problems
The Pressures of monetary value on collegiate athletes
This piece focuses on the mental health effects and sports psychology of collegiate athletes with monetary pressure. Majority of student athletes in college have some kind of external monetary pressure including NIL deals and scholarships. This project is
important because NIL deals have been on the rise in the past couple of years and with extreme deal values in the millions. While NIL deals are not directly tied to a pay-to-play compensation, student athletes are pressured to perform well to improve their marketability. This piece will explore how the monetary pressure and external factors such as academics, extensive travel schedules, burnout affect their mental and physical health.
